So, you know how it goes when a whole new chapter kicks in, right? Ben Gunstone, who’s been kinda behind the scenes at Stainless Games since 2022, suddenly finds himself running the show as the new CEO. I mean, replacing Patrick Buckland – the guy who literally started the place way back in 1994 – that’s no small shoes to fill. Yeah, Gunstone came on board as just a game director. It’s like he blinked, and here he is, the head honcho. Before Stainless, he apparently had a stint over at Dovetail Games. Not sure how long exactly, but seems like just enough to make a splash here.
Anyway, Gunstone seems both thrilled and a little awestruck by this new gig. He’s gushing about the legacy Buckland’s left. “I’m super excited,” he says. Or something like that. It’s like inheriting this insanely impressive family heirloom and trying not to drop it. He talks about keeping the spirit of Stainless alive, which, let’s face it, is kinda cool given how long they’ve been in the game. Meanwhile, Buckland cracks a little joke about his age. (He’s turning 62, but swears he doesn’t look a day over 70. I’ve got to love the self-deprecating humor.)
He’s stepping back a bit, sliding into this Executive Chairman role. Says it’s less about daily grind stress and more about indulging his real love for making games. Which sounds pretty sweet if you ask me. Buckland’s like, “Stainless is still my baby. But hey, day-to-day? It’s all yours, Ben.” Seems like he’s trusting Gunstone to steer the ship onwards and upwards. It’s a whole “pass the baton but stay close” kind of vibe.
