So here’s the deal — Matt Ryan, yeah the guy who brought Edward Kenway to life in Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, just dropped a lil’ nugget of info that’s gotten fan folks all stirred up. Like, maybe there’s a hot new reason to dust off the ol’ game console and dive back into pirate shenanigans. This all went down at some convention — his signing table to be precise. And guess what? Fans went wild, thinking it meant a remake or a remaster was on the horizon. But, oh boy, Ubisoft was not amused. Rumor has it they waved the big bad legal stick at him for spilling the beans. Really makes you think, doesn’t it?
Anyway, some TikTok user, uh, kylo_hd659, caught this juicy moment on camera at Manchester Comic Con. So Matt, cool as you like, started talking about Black Flag. He was like, “Yeah, didn’t know the convo was being recorded, and now I’m kinda in deep with Ubisoft, so lips zipped from now on.” Sorta makes you wonder what else goes on behind closed doors, right?
“The thing is,” he says — and picture him gesturing wildly — “someone was doing this,” indicating the camera, “and I was all open without realizing. Now the company wants to sue me. So, mum’s the word.” He looks to the camera, making sure we’re all clued in this time. Is this his way of telling us to back off? Not sure, but it’s working.
We pinged Ubisoft for their side of the story. Waiting to hear back. Lines? Baited, as they say.
Meanwhile, Matt’s been busy not pirating around but taming the supernatural as John Constantine. Yeah, that’s right, hanging out in the DC Comics world, both on the tube and in animation. Side note, James Gunn, if you’re mulling over mystical folk for DC Universe, give Matt a holler, would ya? Thanks in advance for doing us all a solid.
Think that covers the whole shebang. Was there more? Probs. But, y’know, my brain’s already sailing the high seas. Or stuck in magic land. Same difference.
