Alright, bear with me. So Nintendo’s got this new thing, Drag x Drive, and it’s gonna be on their Switch 2 console. Yeah, the name’s pronounced Drag “and” Drive. Weird, right? Anyway, they dropped this trailer and it’s all about wheelchair basketball with mouse controls. Kinda wild. Oh, and it’s out August 14.
The trailer’s pretty beefy—over 7 minutes of it—and it’s got everything: controls, tricks, and stuff you do outside the arena. So naturally, people are talking. On the Pure Nintendo Podcast, everyone was like, “What modes are there?” Turns out there are minigames between matches, so it’s not just the usual 3-on-3. There’s online play, training, bots, the whole shebang.
Nintendo’s spilling the details:
You can jump into online lobbies, which is just fancy talk for playing with folks anywhere. Get 6 people, and boom, the game kicks off. Friend Parks let you and your pals mess around, up to 6 players per court, with GameChat if you want to trash talk—or not. Plus, offline games let you practice against bots.
Three driver types to choose from: Guard, Center, or Forward. Each has stats, so pick one that vibes with how you play. Oh, and for a change, there’s a Circuit Sprint minigame, shooting contests, and stuff like Rebound Scramble. Whatever that is.
Challenges get you trophies and unlock hats for your character. You can mix and match helmets, armor, and tires. Make it yours, right?
Are these features cool? Maybe. Is this gonna be Nintendo’s next big thing? Who knows. Curious about folks’ reactions to the trailer.
Oh, and heads up—Global Jam is a sort of a sneak peek event happening August 9-10. You can grab the demo and play with friends:
– August 9, 3 am to 7 am PT
– August 9, 5 pm to 9 pm PT
– August 10, 9 am to 1 pm PT
Let’s see if Drag x Drive scores big on August 14. Fingers crossed!
