Sure thing. Here it goes:
Have you noticed how Full Motion Video games are like, making a sneaky comeback? I mean, they were kinda like those old choose-your-own-adventure things but on a screen. Funny how they always felt like the underdogs, right? Anyway, there’s this game called The Shapeshifting Detective that delves into those “Whodunit” mysteries. Some of the actors felt boxed in, but hey, it’s charming in its own way. On the flip side, you’ve got insane stuff like Not for Broadcast that’s more interactive. Both quirky, both entertaining.
So, here’s this game, Dead Reset — sounds spooky already, huh? This developer, Dark Rift Horror, gave us a sneak peek. Picture this: Cole Mason, some surgeon dude, suddenly wakes up on what seems like a space station (think Aliens movie vibes). He’s yanked up by a guard with a gun – intense, right? Then they drag him over to this surgery scene with a patient sporting a weird growth. You’re at gunpoint, and a so-called friend urges Cole to cut into her. Choices pop up, like grab the gun or make a run for it. Panic stations, right? I went with “fine, let’s operate,” and boom — alien carnage ensues.
And guess what? It’s a time loop. Cole dies, wakes up, same guard, same scenario. It’s like living through Groundhog Day with extraterrestrial mayhem. We dove into chapter one, and you’d hit these dead ends, like when I stupidly tried using a gun without ID (big mistake, lost an arm). But finally, after some serious trial and error, the alien was contained, and there we were, staring down the barrel of more mystery. Fun stuff.
The actors, you can tell they’re super dedicated. Most performances hit the mark, but some tense scenes felt, well, a little off. Maybe it’s just the crunch of deadlines or whatever. It bizarrely fits though; horror tends to throw strangers together whether they like it or not. And man, the gore? Deliciously gruesome. Entrails, gunshots, aliens—oh my. That little alien creature, kinda silly-looking, but they cleverly keep it in the shadows. Gave me arcade game flashbacks — think Area 51 shooter style with gunfire biting at the screen.
I gotta say, I liked visiting Dead Reset’s world. It teased enough of its vibe and story to keep me intrigued. The first chapter’s acting nailed it, leaving me biting my nails for Cole’s weird time adventures and the under-the-skin monster mystery. Can’t wait for it to drop on the Nintendo Switch eShop on September 11th.
