Okay, so here’s something interesting I stumbled upon while sipping my half-cold coffee this Wednesday morning. CD Projekt finally chimed in, saying the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is moving into pre-production. Bye-bye Project Orion, hello Cyberpunk 2!
This juicy tidbit popped up during their latest financial gabfest. The team behind this next shiny thing got some kudos as CD Projekt gears up to toss the original game onto Nintendo Switch 2. Seriously, who ever saw all those things coming together? Anyway, they did.
So, apparently, a few weeks back, the squad at CD Projekt Red wrapped up the whole “conceptual phase” of the new Cyberpunk game. And now, they’re diving headfirst into pre-production. They threw this tidbit into some fancy release about their financial haul, and—wait—where was I going with this?
Ah, right. The slide deck breakdown. So, by April 30, they had 96 devs on Cyberpunk 2, jumping up from 84 back in February. Feels like crumbs compared to the 422 folks on Witcher 4, which is like, chugging toward the finish line. And yeah, I know that number isn’t counting the 131 devs in shared services making sure stuff doesn’t end up in a digital flaming disaster.
Oh! Before I forget — they also dropped the bombshell that the Phantom Liberty expansion hit a whopping 10 million sales. Witcher 3? That beast clocked 60 million as it turned a decade old. Happy birthday, monster hunts and Dogtown escapades.
Curious if the name Cyberpunk 2 will stick, or if they’ll change to one of those catchy year-based titles like its predecessor. Mike Pondsmith, the brain behind the original TTRPG, teased something about a city that sounds like Chicago but if it went entirely off the rails. Anyone else getting dystopian deep dish vibes?
And… that’s about it. What a ride, huh?
