Alright, so here we are diving into some nostalgia because, guess what? Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is back, and honestly, I’m kinda jazzed about it. Released way back in the ancient time of 2002, it’s the follow-up to Onimusha: Warlords. This isn’t just some dusty sequel — they’ve tossed in a whole new plot twist and a fresh character to boot. Enter Jubei Yagyu, samurai extraordinaire, on his out-for-revenge tour.
We’re picking things up a whopping decade after the first game, where demonic vibes from Nobunaga Oda are stirring again. Apparently, he’s plotting to take over Japan. Typical. He starts with trashing Yagyu Village, and when Jubei finds his home looking like a bad Pinterest fail, he’s off to settle some scores. Along the way, Jubei bumps into four fellow wanderers. These guys are handy in a fight and can influence how your story plays out — but fair warning, you’ve gotta shower them with gifts. Like, literally, gift your way to their hearts. Virtual shopping sprees, anyone?
Gifts. Yeah, let’s talk about those. From buying trinkets to digging them out of weird hidey-holes, you’ll find ways to keep your buddies happy. The kicker is that each person is picky – they all have their quirks. Play it right, and you might even unlock the option to play as one of your allies for a slice of the game. Personally, I kind of enjoy this strategy — makes me feel all powerful, like I’m playing Cupid or something.
Oh, fun fact — in a casual chat with the Capcom folks, they let slip some favorite gift reactions. It’s like they were gossiping about high school crushes, except it’s about digital characters. Whatever, it was entertaining!
Take Ekei Ankokuji, for instance. Picture this dude: a Buddhist priest who’s into liquor and living it up a bit. Not your conventional monk, huh? Gift him a huqin or a folding fan, and he’s busting a move. Like, legit dancing. Who would’ve thought?
Then there’s Magoichi Saiga. Leader dude from the Kishu Saiga Gun Team with a serious thing for books. But turns out, one book isn’t enough. Nope, he wants them all. Talk about having high standards, geez.
And, gotta love the youngest sidekick, Kotaro Fuma. A ninja with a youthful snark. Hand him an old-school Tengu mask, and he’ll sass you out, like, “Yeah, I’m too cool for this dinosaur costume, thanks.”
Oyu’s a real enigma wrapped in shiny armor, fighting beside Jubei. She seems skeptical of everything, especially gifts like Sun Tzu’s Art of War. I mean, why so serious?
I could ramble on, but basically, if you give Magoichi raw fish paired with wasabi, his reaction is priceless. Kosuke Tanaka, the producer dude, seriously loves it, and, well, I kinda get it.
So there you have it. If you’re half as curious as me, get out there and start slinging gifts around in Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny — it’s a ride, I promise. Go on, reclaim your digital destiny or whatever. And hey, who knows what Easter eggs you’ll stumble upon? Happy gaming!
