I was wandering around my room, thinking about this whole PlayStation Plus overhaul that Sony dropped on June 13, 2022. It’s like they decided to take PS Plus and mash it up with PS Now, creating this trio of tiers. And why not? More choices for us, right? I mean, there’s Essential at $9.99/month, pretty much the old PS Plus — online access, free games, some discounts, yada yada.
Then there’s Extra for $14.99/month. This one’s got all that Essential stuff, plus they throw in a whole bunch of PS4 and PS5 games. Like, they’re basically saying, “Here, have a buffet of games.”
And, oh boy, cue the Premium tier at $17.99/month. Now this one’s like the over-the-top sundae at an ice cream shop. Alongside all the goodies from Essential and Extra, it comes packed with classic games from PS1, PS2, PS3, and even the PSP. Trials, cloud streaming — the works. Honestly, it’s like they’ve bottled two decades of gaming history.
But diving into that premium library? Phew, overwhelming. Seriously, with over 700 games, picking something is like deciding what to watch on Netflix with your brain fried at midnight.
New updates roll in every month, and if you ask me, I guess it keeps things spicy. Just last June 17, 2025, there was this mix of games — not like any one title screams “subscribe now,” but, hey, it’s diverse. Even a Day 1 arrival that’s a multiplayer shooter. FBC: Firebreak caught my eye, if only because multiplayer chaos is my jam.
Speaking of FBC: Firebreak, it burst onto the scene as this online co-op experience. Still too early to say if it’s a hit or miss, but it showed up on PS Plus Extra/Premium and Game Pass at the same time. Crossplay too. Seems like they want everyone to dive in together.
It’s meant to be a gang activity — three-player missions, and all that jazz. Sure, you can go solo, but why would you? It’s modeled like Deep Rock Galactic with more shooter-style vibes.
Switching to different waters, there’s God of War Ragnarok. If you followed Kratos in 2018, you’re probably itching to know how his Norse tale wraps up. Spoiler: things get pretty epic. Maybe too epic? Anyway, it’s got the same gritty combat, new toys, and yeah, it drags you into massive battles.
Meanwhile, The Last Of Us Part 1 got a facelift for PS5. Classic story, revamped visuals. If you’re new to Joel and Ellie’s wild ride, start here. If not, maybe just reminisce.
On the RPG front, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt struts in — like it owns the place. Everyone’s played this, right? But if you haven’t, it’s there waiting. Massive world, gripping quests, all that. It’s practically the granddaddy of modern RPGs.
Oh, and let’s not forget Cult Of The Lamb. Picture a roguelite with a sprinkle of dark humor and a cute but creepy cult vibe. It’s weird, but in a good way.
TimeSplitters 2 and Future Perfect also popped up for nostalgia trips. They’re oldies but goodies, clunky yet charming. If you’re into vintage shooters, these are for you.
And finally, there’s Bloodborne. A dark, twisted masterpiece where you either “get good” or get wrecked. FromSoftware crafted a beast with this one — and I mean that in the best way possible.
Jeez, I meandered more than your average RPG questline. Anyway, these are just a few highlights. PS Plus is this bottomless pit of gaming, and whether that’s daunting or delightful? That’s for you to decide.
