You know that feeling when you’re waiting for something big, and it’s just taking forever? That’s basically what’s been going on with this duos thing finally hitting Elden Ring Nightreign. Oh man, and they threw in a bunch of nifty little updates too. Anyway — wait, what was I saying? Right, there’s this new trailer, and it’s showing off this two-player vibe. But here’s the kicker: there’s this cute little moment that, for some unknown reason, just sticks with me. FromSoftware is just poking fun, in their usual cheeky style, at the hardcore Nightreign fans. It’s super fast, a few seconds maybe, but they totally made their point.
So, like, around 34 seconds in, you see this Revenant chilling next to an imp statue seal, right? She waves the other player over, and then — bam! — the Executor jumps in but, haha, does nothing. Nope, nada. You get this goofy animation of trying to use an item that’s just not there. Then it’s back to the main stuff.
The hilarity here is tied to this whole ‘evergaol meta’ scene that’s taken over Nightreign. BTW, if you don’t know, Evergaols are these relics that amp up your damage every time you squash one. And, OMG, it’s, like, stackable. Sure, you can power up fast if you route it right, but everyone’s all about these strategies now. Some relics start off with a Stoneword key, but figuring out where to farm those is like the community’s unofficial game within a game. Most of my matches this summer? Guaranteed someone’s rocking an Evergaol setup. It’s like, the way to go now.
Now get this: with all this Evergaol love, it’s also kinda boxed in how folks play. It’s almost, dare I say, mainstream now (or overused?). Some gamers are just plain tired of this merry-go-round. There was this Reddit post that practically blew up. People venting about wanting to shake things up but, whatever they do, Evergaol keeps sneaking back into the picture. A snapshot from the thread? It’s like, “Tried this, boom, more damage with Evergaol. Played that, guess what? More damage. Wanna try new tactics? Haha, nope, Evergaol.”
This makes it sound like joy got sapped out of Nightreign, but hold up. It’s complicated, as life often is. Just because Evergaols are top-tier doesn’t mean strapping on the relics instantly levels up your game. Some jump into Evergaols right from the start, without even leveling up. Guess what happens? They get smacked down quickly, even by no-name enemies. Opening an Evergaol at level one — totally bonkers, but it goes down all the time. I once saw a team dive headfirst into one; spoiler alert, we all face-planted. Guess who got ditched by the team afterward?
You gotta see the humor in it, though. Like in the duos trailer: folks are so caught up in the meta they head straight for an Evergaol. But uh-oh, no one’s carrying a freaking key. Then the awkward shuffle begins. Someone steps up and guides the squad in a new direction, but not until some time’s been wasted. Been there, done that. Honest mistake, really. I swear I didn’t know my loadout had changed. Oh well.
At least I haven’t gone all alpha-mode, spamming Evergaols on the map until folks cave just to stop the madness.
The mini-scene with the Executor in the trailer, yeah, it nails that mix of bragging rights and embarrassment perfectly. It’s FromSoftware’s way of giving us fans a playful nod. Tons of tiny nods sprinkled throughout, too.
One YouTuber even commented something like, “Fromsoft just gets us, man. Tiny details, like Ironeye trying to zap the seal for Recluse — can’t reach it, poor thing. It’s the kind of stuff you only know from playing.”
Connected, you know?
