So, there I was, drowning in the cacophony of cheers at the PAX East extravaganza. The buzz? Oh boy, it’s all about this Magic: The Gathering teaming up with Final Fantasy — yeah, the RPG fantasy dream mash-up nobody knew they needed until now. Wizards of the Coast? They tossed out this two-hour face-melting presentation — and the crowd? Bonkers. Chocobos darting around, cards showing off luscious lands, famous Final Fantasy spots — like, totally drool-worthy.
You’d think Wizards had shown it all back in February, right? Not even close. This PAX event, though, cracked things wide open, showing just what’s stuffed in the summer set and how players might shuffle these cards — or whatever magic they get up to during gameplay.
And — drumroll, please — Yoshitaka Amano is back! Yeah, the legendary artist bringing Kefka alive again on these cards. Wild, right? There’s a bunch more too, but let’s not get tangled in the details.
So, Magic: The Gathering — Final Fantasy is the new kid on the block. Wizards have been buddying up with the likes of Lord of the Rings, Marvel, and even Spongebob. This one’s supposed to be a whopper, unaffected by any worldly economic hiccups — at least that’s what Hasbro’s big cheese, Chris Cocks, is banking on. He even hinted that this set’s already breaking records. Hotcakes, I tell ya.
Yet here we are, twiddling thumbs — the launch is zoned in for June 13. But, hey, if you’re itching for it, pre-orders are a thing. Get on that if you want those gems ASAP.
