For over three decades, co-creator Ed Boon has been slipping secret characters, often color-swapped ninjas, into the series. It looks like Boon and his team are teasing the arrival of a new stealthy fighter in Mortal Kombat 1: Floyd.
Yes, you heard it right—Floyd, as in Pink Floyd. Back in 2022, Boon replied to a fan on Twitter expressing his desire to introduce a pink ninja named Floyd, drawing inspiration from the legendary band. Given that Boon once created a purple ninja called Rain because of his admiration for Prince, it’s not a surprise.
It seems Floyd is ready to make his grand entrance. Players who have managed to get early access to Mortal Kombat 1’s latest DLC character, Conan the Barbarian, have been receiving compelling hints about Floyd’s impending debut. The specifics of how this pink ninja will be integrated into the game remain shrouded in mystery.
The first clue about Floyd’s entry into Mortal Kombat lore came from YouTuber Super, known for his fighting game insights. He noticed that the name “Floyd” accompanied by an electric guitar riff would occasionally flash on screen at the end of fights when playing as Conan on the Living Forest stage. This level is historically significant as a location where secret characters like Jade and Smoke would make their appearances back in Mortal Kombat 2, adding weight to the speculation that Floyd is indeed the next ninja challenger.
