I’ve got to say, the stuff people come up with never ceases to amaze me. Since that kick-off moment when we got our hands on the console, we’ve witnessed some pretty wild Steam Deck mods. Remember the “Steam Brick”? Or how about that ambitious 32GB RAM mod? Well, over on Reddit, there’s this guy — Michaelthatsit. And he’s gone ahead and concocted something really out-there by morphing the Deck’s guts into this quirky “all-in-one” keyboard called the Bento.
It’s like, imagine your Steam Deck turning into this super mobile SteamOS setup with a keyboard. Yeah, right? I saw pics on Reddit where Michael hooked up the Bento to these glasses that use Type-C connections. Forget normal screens, who needs ’em?
So, to make his vision a reality, Michael yanked out the Deck’s motherboard and, well, pretty much everything else important. Then he crammed them into a snazzy 3D-printed case that nestles under an Apple 10-keyless Magic keyboard.
The case itself is like two puzzle pieces: a big left chamber for all the Deck stuff and a smaller right one for extras. The left side even has these vents—get this—to keep the Deck’s custom AMD chip cool. The right side? Just sitting there, holding a USB hub in the pics. When you assemble it all, it tucks neatly beneath the Apple keyboard, almost like they were made for each other with those curved edges.
But hey, not all rainbows and unicorns. This is just a first go. Due to his 3D printer’s setup, Michael had to split the clamshell into two separate parts. And sadly, there’s no built-in mouse yet. Anyway — wait, no — the next thing on Michael’s list is to unify the body and toss in mouse functions. Fingers crossed!
Michael’s creation once again shouts loud about what Steam Deck hardware can do when you’ve got creativity on your side. For SteamOS fans who live for the desktop use, well, it’s kind of a dreamland.
So yeah, I’d keep an eye on Tom’s Hardware for more cool stuff like this. Just hit that Follow on Google News, and you’re set for the latest buzz.
