From gold medalists to the geniuses behind some of the skateboarding moves we all know and love, these legendary skaters really got the ball rolling on bringing skateboarding to the masses. Mix in a bit of bravery, a sprinkle of creativity, and a hefty dose of sheer stubbornness, and you’ve got a group that’s ready to face any challenge thrown their way. Seriously, nothing holds them back.
“Being in the original games was epic!” That’s Elissa Steamer talking, first female skater you could play in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. She says it was, like, semi-life-changing. Can you imagine? Just being super stoked back then and still buzzing about it now! Honestly, sounds pretty cool.
Now, take Rodney Mullen, the legend who came up with the kickflip, and kind of a big deal in the skate world. “From the moment Tony asked, it was an honor,” he says. Apparently, he didn’t really know how big it was gonna be. Picture this: first time on tour after the game dropped, total chaos. Shop owners—they had to plop him on the van roof just so he could scribble signatures. The crowd was so wild, rocking the van back and forth! Mind-blowing stuff, right?
He goes on about how the game opened up skating to a bunch more people, seriously leveling up the community. Tricks, societal vibes, even how parents started giving their skater kids some slack. Skating isn’t just a sport—it’s like a lifestyle, a culture. Tony’s game managed to capture that with its killer music, art, and the whole vibe. It’s great finally being understood, you know?
And BTW, when Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 drops this July, watch out for a lineup of returning skaters. They’re all set to hit the streets again. Oldies but goodies from the OG games, plus a few others in the series. Can’t wait!
