Oh man, so check this out! A prototype of what might be the next-gen Lenovo Legion Go handheld was spotted somewhere in China. Some Reddit user, Worth_Spot, found it. Apparently, after Lenovo closed its factory for these consoles, some dev units started popping up on Chinese second-hand websites. Wild, right?
Anyway — wait, where was I? Oh yeah, there’s a video on YouTube, or maybe it started on BiliBili — who knows — showing this Legion Go 2. Looks kinda like the older one, with controllers you can snap off and a big ol’ 8.8-inch screen. Samsung made the OLED panel. Pixel nerds might care — 1920 x 1200 resolution, 144 Hz refresh rate, HDR, VRR… sounds fancy, I guess.
And then there’s this guy in the video chatting about the guts of it. It’s got an AMD Ryzen Z2 (or Z2 Extreme, if you’re curious) and a Radeon 780M GPU. What’s that mean, you ask? No clue, but it sounds powerful. Lenovo mentioned this during some CES thing about their handhelds earlier this year. Those tech shows have a way of making everything sound so futuristic.
The guy in the video? He also shows how it comes packed with a 1TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD and 32GB of LPDDR5X memory running at 7500 MHz. There’s a 74Wh battery too. It’s got all this Wi-Fi 6E stuff and runs on Windows 11, out of the box. I mean, who doesn’t love more gaming nerd stuff, right? There’s a trackpad, a kickstand, and even a controller that doubles as a mouse. Multitasking much?
Rumor mill’s churning that it’ll drop in September — maybe for a cool $1,000. But hey, who knows?
Now, Lenovo’s only selling the Legion Go S, which rolls with the Ryzen Z1 Extreme or the Z2 Go chip. Makes you wonder if the Legion Go 2 can hold its ground. Asus is buddied-up with Microsoft now, launching other handhelds like the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X. They’re aiming at seamless Xbox and Game Pass vibes out of the box. Must be a tough gig for Lenovo to stay in the game.
And if you’re looking for some fun tech news or deep dives, give Tom’s Hardware a follow on Google News. Handy little button for that. Okay… I’m outta here.
