Anyway, there’s this fresh update, and boom, Narcissus is finally here. Bold move, Supergiant. Bold move.
So Supergiant Games, they love their myth vibes, especially the fun, flirty bits. Really, Greek myths? A lot of those stories are basically, well, let’s say PG-13 at the mildest. Zeus, don’t even start with him—his tales could fill a whole series on their own.
In Hades’ first game, you couldn’t help but notice how into the whole sensual storytelling they were. The character voices? Total velvet. You could practically feel every smoky whisper, full-on romantic drama. And the actors got briefed as being all “mischievous” and “suggestive.” Seriously, the voice acting had a way of pulling you in—like, was it a romance or a fighting game? Hard to tell sometimes.
And oh, the music! Ever pluck of that Turkish lute kinda tossed you back into ancient tales—not that I’ve been there, but you know what I mean. Everything in Hades seemed steeped in history and maybe not-so-innocent connections. Like, between the battles, were we just wandering through epic myth soap operas?
Now with Hades 2, they ramped up the whole romance-a-drama. We get date nights, people! I mean, sure, there’s sword-swinging, but also a bathhouse scene. Just chillin’, everyone all relaxed. Plus, Dionysus in a thong—talk about embracing the theme! So when Narcissus showed up looking, well, like a dreamy twink, it kinda made sense. Didn’t stop people from raising eyebrows, though.
Scrolling through comments online—one person said, “okay but if i was narcissus and i looked like this? i’d never stop looking at myself either.” Pretty sure that’s a vibe Narcissus would totally dig.
Oh, and characters like Prometheus? They got their reworks too. Less polished, more “I’m bleeding right now, thanks.” Fan art is gonna blow up, you just know it.
While I’m stoked to see these changes, I sorta miss the mystery of the placeholders. It was like imagining your childhood hero before you saw their movie adaptation. Sometimes reality can’t keep up with imagination. Narcissus knew something about that—ultimately, it’s his own reflection that, well, you know. Isn’t that the irony of gaming?
