Oh wow, so here we go again. Itch.io just went ahead and cleared out all the adult NSFW stuff. Why? Apparently, some payment bigwigs threw a fit, pushed by this group called Collective Shout who seems to have it out for gaming platforms like Steam and Itch.io. I mean, what’s their beef anyway?
Anyway, Leaf Corcoran, the person behind Itch.io, wrote a whole piece about it. Turns out, they had to start sorting through all the platform’s content — seriously, how do you even begin? — just to keep these payment partners happy. “Got to keep the cash flowing,” as Leaf put it. Makes sense, I guess. Can you imagine trying to run a place without the ability to take in payments? Total chaos.
He was like, “Yeah, we had to do this fast. Sorry for not giving everyone a heads-up.” Pretty rough for the creators though, right? Can’t imagine what that’s like when you suddenly can’t do your thing.
The whole shebang actually started with Valve getting nudged too, pulling up some iffy new guidelines on what’s cool and what’s not. Same deal. Who makes these rules up, really? But yeah, here we are, watching the gaming world shuffle along these invisible lines. Let’s see where this bumpy ride takes us.
