There’s always something happening in the gaming world, and today’s buzz surrounds the possible cancellation of Project G.G. from PlatinumGames, known for its Ultra Man-inspired setup. Not much was ever revealed about this game, so it’s not surprising if it’s slipped from your memory.
The announcement for Project G.G. dates back to 2020, but updates were nonexistent, and then Hideki Kamiya, who was not only a key player in this project but also a co-founder of PlatinumGames, exited the studio by the close of 2023. His departure immediately led to doubts about the future of this title, and now it looks like those concerns were justified. If you browse through the list of games on the PlatinumGames website, you’ll come across 10 entries, including heavy hitters like the Bayonetta series, Nier: Automata, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and the fresh announcement of Ninja Gaiden 4.
Interestingly, a quick look into the past via the Wayback Machine reveals that there once were 22 games on that list. This roster included licensed gems like Transformers: Devastation, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, and The Legend of Korra, along with self-developed titles such as Madworld and the infamous Babylon’s Fall. While these games aren’t visible on the current roster, they still have their own pages. Project G.G., however, was removed entirely, with its page redirecting straight to the homepage.
This all but confirms that Project G.G. has been shelved, a move that’s not entirely unexpected given Kamiya’s exit over a year ago. It’s been somewhat uncertain what PlatinumGames has been focusing on lately, especially as several notable team members have reportedly left. Yet, the development of the new Ninja Gaiden suggests that the studio isn’t closing its doors anytime soon.
