In the midst of an economic landscape marked by high inflation and unpredictable exchange rates, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is making a tough move by increasing the recommended retail price (RRP) for the PlayStation 5 console in certain regions, specifically across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), as well as in Australia and New Zealand.
Starting April 14, the new prices for the PS5 are as follows:
- Europe: The PS5 Digital Edition will now be priced at €499.99. There are no price changes for the standard PS5 equipped with the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive.
- UK: The PS5 Digital Edition’s price will be set at £429.99, with the standard version’s price remaining the same.
- Australia: The standard PS5 with the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will now cost AUD $829.95, while the Digital Edition is priced at AUD $749.95.
- New Zealand: Over there, expect to pay NZD $949.95 for the standard PS5, and NZD $859.95 for the Digital Edition.
On a brighter note, the prices for the PS5 Pro will not see any changes for now.
Furthermore, there’s some good news regarding the Disc Drive for PS5, as its RRP will be reduced beginning April 14:
- Europe: It will now cost €79.99.
- UK: The new price will be £69.99.
- Australia: Revised to AUD $124.95.
- New Zealand: Set to NZD $139.95.
Bear in mind that some EMEA markets not specifically listed above might also experience price changes. It’s best to verify the exact details with your local retailer or check on direct.playstation.com if it’s operational in your area.
