Janos Flösser, who once led the team at IO Interactive, famous for the Hitman series, has unveiled his latest venture—a brand-new studio called Wombo Games.
This exciting new enterprise is already making waves in the gaming world with its upcoming release, Raiders of Blackveil, a strategy roguelike game. Gamers can look forward to diving into an Early Access version set to drop this summer.
Wombo Games came to life in 2023, but Flösser’s journey began long before that. He spent a decade at IO Interactive from 1998 to 2008, then took on the role of chief creative officer at Square Enix. After his time there, which ended in 2016, he moved on to become CEO at Crey Games. He has also held positions as a partner and then a senior partner at Promentum Capital.
Flösser shared some insights with GamesBeat, saying, “We aimed to keep the studio small and flexible to see just how far we can push our boundaries. After securing funding, we kicked off the project in July 2023, which means we’re approaching our second birthday. Remarkably, we had a playable version ready almost within the first six weeks, which captivated our investors from the get-go. They’ve been enthusiastic ever since, which is a first for me—seeing investors so excited about both the team and the concept. Over the past two years, we’ve successfully raised funds on three separate occasions. Right now, our main focus is crafting the perfect game for our target audience.”
