Well, okay, here we go. Imagine this: Nintendo’s Switch 2, right? It’s supposed to have this new screen, and you’d think it’s all fancy and whatnot—turns out, there’s a bit more to it. So, this reviewer from China, Chimolog, dives into it. Apparently, the screen’s as slow as molasses on a cold day. They say it averages a 17.06 ms response time. Like, did they test it while sipping tea or something? We don’t even know because no details on how they tested it. Just a 1080p, 120 Hz, 7.9-inch LCD screen doing its thing.
And oh man, at its best, it hits 8.88 ms—sounds decent, right? But then it plummets to 27.46 ms like, I don’t even know why. That slow pace can’t quite handle 60 FPS properly. Makes you wonder, doesn’t it? Chimolog lined it up against a bunch of 60 Hz and 75 Hz monitors, and guess what? The Switch 2 flops at the bottom, not by a small margin either.
Here’s the kicker: the Innocn M2U 27 Mini-LED monitor cruises with an 11.06 ms response time. Yep, much smoother. And yet, Nintendo plugged away at other bits of the screen: contrasts, brightness, and all that jazz are supposedly on point. But is that enough? They’ve got this 1309:1 contrast ratio, brightness doing its thing at 303 cd/m², you name it, it’s got it — full sRGB gamut and almost everything else under the sun. Yet, the text… Yeah, that’s another story. This “special RGB” might make you squint harder than a detective in a noir film.
Oh, and the whole 120 Hz thing is still a mystery. Could’ve been a game-changer, but no real tests to see if the response times speed up. Kind of a bummer, right? Monitors Unboxed actually found the original Switch outpaces Switch 2 by 10 ms, and hearing that almost made me spill my drink.
And, despite all this, people are buying it. Like, 3.5 million of the darn things in four days. Who knew, right? It’s Nintendo, so folks just roll with the slow screen if they wanna play their classic faves. Maybe we’ll see an OLED version pop up soon, because honestly, that’d be a welcome change. Here’s hoping.
