Woah, okay, so here’s the deal: I just jumped headfirst into this game called “No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES.” It’s a mouthful, right? First one for the Nintendo Switch 2, and I’m all in. Just saying, after the whole New Cyclops Serial Killings, I thought things couldn’t get weirder, but bam! Internet idol kidnapped by a UFO. Yeah, you heard that right. UFOs. And she’s wrapped up in something called The Third Eye Game. Sounds like a hoot or a nightmare—depends on your mood, I guess.
So, you’re Kaname Date again. Special Agent with a flair for the dramatic. Chased by those stereotypical men in black. I swear, it’s like a mashup between an action movie and one of those surreal indie films. And Iris Sagan, aka A-set, is just… gone, sucked into space? The whole thing gives off some serious No More Heroes vibes—if you know, you know.
Anyway, backtracking a bit, it slots in before the nirvanA Initiative, which was mind-blowing itself. I went ham on those, and when I heard this one was gonna hit the Switch 2, my brain did that ‘yep, it’s gaming time’ thing. Voice actors totally bring it. Greg Chun as Date? Absolute gold. No kidding, dude’s got range. Plus there’s this whole escape room setup. Who doesn’t like a little brain-teasing chaos in their games? I say bring it on.
In this game, you’re split between Investigation, Escape, and Somnium sections. First, you’re doing the Sherlock thing—looking around, poking stuff. Left analog, right analog, press A, see through walls like you’ve got some kind of x-ray vision. Totally Batman, if Batman was stuck in a detective dreamland.
Escape’s pretty self-explanatory. Locked in, puzzle time, find a way out or just stew in your wrong guesses. The ZL button is your best friend unless it switches to the Hard mode—then it abandons you like a bad friend at a party.
And Somnium? Whoa, it’s like diving headfirst into an art project gone mad. Six-minute race against whatever crazy subconscious ideas someone’s brain decided to throw at you. The time ticks down, pressure’s on, like trying to find where you left your keys but with more existential dread.
Difficulty settings? Yeah, they threw in a buffet of options there. Story for the chilled vibes, Easy for the semi-challenged crowd, and Standard for the real deal. The Escape mode has some wild spins too. Sometimes stuff just locks down harder than a teenager’s diary. Searching sucks on high difficulties, but at least they’re generous with hints.
Oh, and you collect “Eyes” along the way. Don’t ask me why they’re called that—I guess eye puns are in, or it’s some deep symbolism about vision or whatever. They unlock bonus content and keep you busy, and who doesn’t love chasing those shiny things?
The game drops next week at $39.99 on the Switch 2. Standard price, but it’s a ride. Spike Chunsoft knows how to make something that sticks—and hey, if UFOs and abduction puzzles are your jam, you’ll be right at home.
So, yeah, that’s my two cents. Get ready to dive into whatever madness Kaname Date spins up this time. Game on.
